A big win for Lisa Bone at the Cycle Tour
This past Sunday at the Cape Town Cycle Tour, Cadence Nutrition ambassador Lisa Bone delivered a standout performance to win the Elite Women’s race.
Racing in the colours of the Cycle Nation Ladies Team, Lisa lined up for the fast and aggressive 78 km race from Fish Hoek to Green Point. The Elite Women’s race is known for its intensity, with attacks often shaping the outcome on the major climbs around the peninsula.
From early in the race the pace was high. Lisa and her teammates animated the race with a breakaway move on Smitswinkel, stretching the field and forcing other race favourites to respond. The move was eventually brought back by the main group, but it set the tone for a relentlessly aggressive race.
As the riders reached Chapman’s Peak Drive, the attacks continued. Pressure from riders like Candice Lill split the race further, creating a select front group that would ultimately contest the win.
The final decisive moments came on Suikerbossie climb, where repeated accelerations from Kate Courtney tested the group. Lisa remained composed, matching the moves and staying with the front riders as they crested the climb and headed towards the final kilometres.
A small group rolled towards the finish in Green Point, setting up a sprint to the line. Timing her effort perfectly, Lisa surged in the closing metres to take the victory ahead of Gravel World Champion Daria Pravilova in 2nd and UCI MTB Marathon World Champion Kate Courtney in 3rd.

Fuelling the win
With the race lasting just over two hours and ridden at an extremely high intensity, fuelling needed to be simple, consistent and reliable.
Lisa relied on our caffeinated gels and carbohydrate & electrolyte mix throughout the race to maintain energy and hydration:
-
5 × Cadence Vanilla Caffeine Gels
- 2 × bottles with one scoop of Cadence CarboFuel Mix in each
= Total of +/- 185g carbs over the 2hrs (+/- 90g carbs per hour)
Her fuelling schedule was straightforward and well timed:
-
Gel at the start
- 30 minutes into the race
-
1 hour into the race
-
90mins into the race
- Final gel rolling through into Camps Bay
This approach ensured a steady supply of carbohydrates and caffeine during the hardest parts of the race, particularly as the pace surged on the major climbs and into the closing kilometres.
A proud moment for the team
We’re incredibly proud of Lisa’s performance and the result she delivered on one of South Africa’s biggest race days. Winning the Cape Town Cycle Tour against such a strong field is a remarkable achievement and a testament to her strength, composure and race craft.
This is our second year partnering with the Cycle Nation Ladies Team - supporting riders who continue to raise the level of women’s racing in South Africa is something we value deeply.
Seeing that support translate into performances like this makes it all the more meaningful.
An incredible ride and a well-deserved win, Lisa!
